看朋友的部落格 .. Reading friends' blogs
學習第二個語言的最難的障礙之一是把最自然的用法學會。我用中文的時候，雖然把我想說的話說得出來，但是有時候選擇的詞匯來表示我的意思是怪怪的。講母語沒有這個障礙是因為人的腦筋從很多很多聽詞匯知道怎麼把詞匯用對。
我發現一個方法來解決怎麼用詞的問題，就是看朋友的部落格。有很多的朋友寫中文的部落格。他們不像雜志或日報，寫日常生活可以用的詞。因為中文是他們的母語，所以文法和用法都對。還有我如果看不懂一句話或一個詞，馬上知道要問誰，就很快可以把生詞學會。各位學第二語言的人可以考慮用這個方法。

One of the greatest obstacles to learning a second language is learning the most natural usage. When I use Chinese, even though I'm able to say what I want, the words I use to express my meaning are quite weird. People who are speaking their native language don't have this obstacle because through hearing the words so many times, they know exactly how to use them correctly.
I've discovered a good solution to this problem, which is to read friends' blogs. I have quite a few friends who write blogs in Chinese. They write words that can be used in everyday language, unlike some magazines and newspapers. Since Chinese is their native language, their grammar and usage is correct. Besides these, if there's some sentence or word that I don't understand, I immediately know who to ask about it, so I'm able to learn vocabulary very quickly. If you're studying a second language, I definitely recommend this method.

滿月回憶 .. Full Moon Memories
昨天晚上我在Starbucks慢慢喝茶、寫論文，真舒服。我偶然看窗外，突然見到滿月了。妳還記得嗎？我們那個時候在圖書館學習（聊天），離開圖書館之後，因為滿月真漂亮，所以我們偷偷走到房子的後院。那個時候很冷，地上的雪非常易碎，走的時候好大聲。我們一起靜靜看了滿月，悄悄地聊著，小聲地說甜話蜜語。兩個跳著心真快樂。 那個滿月是哪種的？那個晚上天空有雲，長長的，軟軟的，溫柔的，有絨毛的。滿月超級的白，圓圓的。陪滿月的雲也超級的白，在幾個月寬的附近，雲好亮喔。每條雲之間有黑藍色，在這個亮圓的外邊有彩虹。全地點滿開心。妳記得嗎？人會改變，地點會改變，時間會改變，連月都會改變，不是每個滿月都具有這種的感覺。不過有時候在轉瞬之間，開心的回憶會漂浮上來。 過了時間之後，開心的回憶還存在著。我自己笑了一下，後來繼續寫論文、喝茶了。我把茶喝完之後，回家了。 .. Last night, I was in Starbucks sipping on tea and working on my thesis. It was really comfortable. I happened to glance out the window and suddenly saw the full moon. Do you still remember? That time, we were in the library studying (chatting). After leaving the library, since the full moon was so beautiful, we went to the backyard of the house. That time was very cold. The snow on the ground was very brittle and crunchy and made such a loud noise when we were walking. We watched the full moon quietly together, chatting quietly, softly speaking sweet words. The two beating hearts were really happy.

不好意思，我很忙 .. Sorry, I'm busy.
生活真奇怪，我當好人一直追不喜歡我的女孩，還有一個我不喜歡的女孩一直追我。生活真的很奇怪喔。“不好意思，我很忙”。這句話最近常常聽到了，常常說出了。我在做奇怪的夢，活在一部連續劇嗎？
我只可以加油，等到可以跟我現在喜歡的女孩當好朋友，不要跟她聊天很多。我也需要加油，不要欺負喜歡我的女孩，當作一個很忙的人就行。

Life is weird. I have been trying to get a girl who doesn't like me, while at the same time, a girl whom I don't like has been trying to get me. Life really is very weird. "Sorry, I'm busy." I've both heard and spoken this sentence quite often recently. Am I in a strange dream, living in some drama series?
I can only keep trying to do better. Until I feel comfortable just being friends with the girl I like, I won't talk much with her. And, I have to be careful with the girl who likes me, not to treat her badly. I need to ensure that I'm busy.

鬍子 .. Beard
我好久留了鬍子，Slope Day有兩個人跟我講意見，第一個說：你的鬍子太長了。過了五分鐘就有另外一個人說：你的鬍子太牛了，我想留跟你一樣長的一個，需要留多久才那麼長？意見完全不同。昨天跳了表演之後，去方便店買些東西，有另外一個人說我的鬍子真不錯，他試試留一個，但是沒辦法。反正這就是我鬍子的故事，就是我的一部分。

I've had a beard for a long time. On Slope Day, two people commented on it. The first one said, "Your beard is too long." After about five minutes, another person said, "Your beard is awesome! I want to grow one exactly like it. How long does it take to grow it?" Their opinions are completely different. Then yesterday after the dance performance, I went to the convenience store to get a few things, where another person told me that my beard is really great. He said he tried to grow one, but he couldn't. Anyway, this is the story of my beard. It's a part of me.

Nice Guys and Reciprocity .. 好人與對等
What does it mean to be a nice guy? Doesn't everybody want to do good things? I like to try to follow the Golden Rule, to do unto others as you would have others do unto you. I think that if I am nice to others and make them happy, then I feel happy myself. It is because "good things come back to you." So, I often try to do good things for others to make them happy.
In fact, I actually think it's easier for guys to act as "nice guys" (although I think girls can too), since guys are usually more willing to be nice to girls, in hope that the girls will reciprocate. Also for close friends, if one party wants to be a close friend, but the other person doesn't really care, then they still will not become close friends. It seems that any type of inter-human relationship requires reciprocity. Nice guys don't get this, and that they shouldn't waste their time if there's no reciprocity. If the other side doesn't reciprocate, then it seems somewhat foolish to continue acting nicely. This isn't to say that you should act badly towards someone, just that one could be neutral, neither good nor bad.
As for myself, I like being nice to people and making them happy, so that it is somewhat easy for me to become a "nice guy." When I find out, however, then I refuse to go along. I have a lot of good friends -- I'm nice to them, and they're nice to me, so that everyone is happy. Why should I continue to waste my time? I don't know. I deserve better than that.

好人的意思是什麼？大家不是想要為別人做好事嗎？我喜歡遵守金科玉律，你想別人對你怎麼樣，就對他們怎麼樣。我覺得要是對別人好，能讓他們覺得開心，自己就覺得開心，是因為善有善報。那樣子的我通常為別人做好事來讓他們覺得快樂。

Language Choice .. 語言的選擇
I've decided to write in both English and Chinese from now on. In English, I can state whatever I wish quite precisely. In Chinese, I feel more freedom to open up to say whatever I want. Second languages are funny like that.

我決定從此以後要雙用英文和中文來寫部落格。我用英文的話可以表示我想說的，用中文的話比較原意打開自己、說出自己的思想。這是第二個語言的特性。
